Sailing on Broken Pieces

Sailing on Broken Pieces
Written by Gary Rhule

When Dr. Gary returns home after his medical training, he finds his brother diagnosed with schizophrenia. Facing the unknown, he calls on vital life skills learned in the emergency room, and lives parallel lives where the unexpected is the daily way of life.

Nationally, Alpha Kappa Alpha has partnered with NAMI to expand mental health education, awareness, and support activities on college campuses and in local communities. The focus of the July conference is based on Dr. Gary Rhule's book, Sailing on Broken Pieces. Dr. Rhule will discuss his book from the perspective of a physician, sibling and caregiver of his brother who was diagnosed with schizophrenia followed by questions and answers.

The Connecticut NAMI chapter will provide information booths in the area of community education, support groups, advocacy, networks of care and related topics.  The forum is free of charge with parking provided and is open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served and registration is required.
